York’s amazing places to visit.
Introduction:
York is a busy city, especially during the working week, which means that sometimes you just need to find something to do during the day. This blog looks at some of the places you can go to if you are looking for something to do around York.
York Cold War Bunker
Experience the threat of nuclear war at York Cold War Bunker! On a fascinating guided tour, learn how volunteers would have played a vital role in ensuring that Britain could survive up to 60 minutes of non-stop atomic bombardment. The atmospheric 1960s semi-subterranean bunker is just as it was when stood down in 1991, and the one-hour guided tour is enhanced by a short film starring Michael Caine. Summer opening (25th March - October 31st): Wednesday - Sunday, plus bank holidays, between 10am and 6pm. Entrance by guided tour from 10am, on the hour every hour. No need to book!
Rosedale Railway Walk
If you’ve been reading this blog for a long time, by now you know that there are many great walks in the Yorkshire Dales, but if you had to pick one of them to go on the most, what would it be? Some readers said that their favorite walk in the Yorkshire region is through Rosedale Valley. Why do so many people love Rosedale Valley so much? This winding seven-and-a-half-mile trek starts in Rosedale Abbey village and features sweeping valley views throughout. Along the way, take in historic scenery when you pass through the old shrieking kilns and moorland railroad ruins when you come upon an impressive rural landscape. From there, take in spectacular views of Rosedale Valley where Stone Age tool makers once lived.
Rowntree Park
Rowntree Park is a sweet and savory spread. At Rowntree Park, there are also children's playgrounds, tennis courts with rackets to borrow, the possibility of bowling which brings back memories for some folks, an exciting basketball court, skater's paradise, and many outdoor picnic spots with chairs for relaxing! It has a lake where you can swim…until they shut it down due to budget cuts. The park is full of happy ducks, swans, and geese. Rowntree Park’s most beloved treat isn’t really there anymore, although it does seem to have come back with a vengeance in the form of chocolate bars! This field was originally set up by Joseph Rowntree after he noticed how the workers at his factory would go to nearby Strensall Common for recreation. This facility has become a popular place for many people throughout the years where they come together to enjoy themselves and relax after having worked hard all week. The park continues to be well-used by York residents (and visitors) today! It even won an award that recounted its history, cleanliness, and continued usage of the facilities provided thereover so many years among many other criteria! Of course, it's also very accessible to people of all ages since different types of structures are incorporated into the overall design so you never know who you may run into while there or what type of fun activities you may find yourself engaging in next!
Askham Bryan Wildlife & Conservation Park
Askham Bryan Wildlife & Conservation Park is a fun place to come and take your kids or work colleagues too. The park has lots of exciting things to do for most all ages visiting. There are loads of exciting places to go where you can feed animals both big, small, furry, and scaly. These experiences will give you a good insight into their world as well as help raise important awareness of how people can help them by practicing responsible behavior. If you're not sure whether it's right for your group, don't worry as there is plenty more going on as well as chances to learn more about the variety of species, their environment, and the challenges they face every day from people specifically employed at the park to make sure you do!
