Have A Memorable Tour In York Great Places In Town.
Introduction:
York is a city that attracts a lot of visitors and with that, there are a lot of attractions and tourist hot spots. This blog is a list of places to go to if you're traveling to York and looking for something to do.
York Castle Museum
Famous for its collections of costumes, textiles, military, and social history, York Castle Museum brings history back to life. Wander through the Victorian streets, venture into the prison cell of notorious highwayman Dick Turpin and discover what life was like on the front line in the First World War. There's something for everyone at York Castle Museum.
Shambles
The Shambles (officially known as just Shambles ) is an old street in York, England, with overhanging timber-framed buildings, some dating back as far as the fourteenth century. It once was nicknamed "The Great Flesh Shambles," probably from Anglo Saxon Fleshammels, which literally translates to "flesh-shelves"; these were the wooden butcher block tables that used to be prevalent along the street where meat was sliced and displayed for sale. As recently as 1885, thirty-one butchers' shops were located along this section of the street; however, none of them exist anymore. Visit today and you'll find bakeries, fishmongers, and an eclectic mix of clothing stores alongside butchers. Today Shambles has become well-known across the globe for its excellent red sauce especially when paired with steamed mussels! As one of Europe's most famous streets, this paved village hub has something to offer for everyone from tourists to residents to business clients.
Yorkshire Air Museum
The Yorkshire Air Museum and Allied Air Forces Memorial is located just outside the City of York and welcomes families with many pre-made family activities that can be enjoyed at any time. Families can schedule guided tours or follow a map of their own creation to cross off exhibits they wish to see more closely. Families may bring pets of any kind on this specific journey around the museum, so no beloved pet will have to be left behind while following the adventures! Authentically based on an original World War II Bomber Command Station, this unique history museum will help you to take a fantastic journey through time, starting with early aviation biplanes. Next up are the restored Control Tower and then more than forty aircraft exhibits, from "Friday The 13th" all the way to modern Cold War military jets such as the Victor, Nimrod D2, and Tornado GR4. You will also find plenty of information about World War II fighter planes in the museum's vast archives.
York Maze
York Maze is a fun and colorful outdoor experience for all the family. It's the perfect day out and great for kids too! There are more than 20 rides, shows, and attractions here, many of them undercover because it does tend to rain even though you never quite see that coming. The giant Maize Maze is the largest in Europe - come face to face with the giant dinosaurs there! Watch the fun and games on a stage designed specifically for this space called Kernoel’s House Party, zooming down slides made out of corn stalks can be exhilarating, and puzzling over rooms and illusions constructed by Confusion makes everything seem possible! The new attraction Crowmania tractor & trailer ride may keep you guessing as animatronic animals spring to life as do theatrical surprises. Be warned you will get wet on this ride! Also, open at Halloween for frighteningly entertaining nights of fear and fun at Hallowscream, five haunted house attractions, live stage acts roving characters, and more! During the day the slightly less intense Hallowtween is aimed at 10-15 years olds and their brave parents! Tickets for York Maze and Halloween events must be booked online. Tickets are not available on the gate.
